Scripture Union Daily Guide 7th May 2026 – Outline

God summons forces against Babylon with very specific instructions (Jeremiah 50:21,26,27,29). Take note of “do everything I have commanded you” (Jeremiah 50:21). God can choose anyone to carry out His plans, but it must be as He commands, not as we want. God does not judge anyone without a reason.

Read Jeremiah 50:23-26,28-29,31-32 again, observe and outline the reasons for God’s judgement that would come upon Babylon. What can we learn from these? Babylon has been injurious to her neighbours, and destroyed them, like a hammer breaking earthenware (Jeremiah 50:23). She was rebellious to the Lord and unknowingly fell into God’s trap (Jeremiah 50:24). Babylon destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple and would be repaid in the same coin (Jeremiah 50:28-29).

She has been arrogant and would be humiliated (Jeremiah 50:31-32). We must be wary of wickedness, rebellion and pride, remembering always, that God will call us to account for everything we do. In contrast to the judgement on Babylon God promised to restore and completely forgive the remnants (Jeremiah 50:19-20). This is exactly what God has done for us in Christ (Colossians 1:14; Hebrews 10:14).
